Boatbuilding

I have been honoured over the years to help build some beautiful new wooden boats. Sometimes, new doesn’t mean ‘maiden voyage’ but restored in a way that is ‘better than new’. Here are a few examples of projects and the process.

I’m currently mid build on 2 clinker dinghies. One traditional 14’ sailing dinghy, designed by Will Stirling of khaya mahogany on english oak. The other, a more modern Iain Oughtred design, the 13’ Acorn.

This is part of a 28’ Couta boat new build in Lavender Bay, Sydney. You can follow along at Gordon Wooden Boats

Unity build in 2013-14. Made in Cornwall, she’s a 40’ traditional West Country Cutter currently available for charter

Stage 1 of the restoration of ‘Morna’ was removing the deck, internal fit out and replacing the frames.
